Got a MacBook Pro 2016 with Touchbar (A1706) second hand from a friend of mine and we formatted it together and after formating the keyboard stopped working. It doesn’t even work on boot (eg. I can’t boot to recovery or reset SMC). Could it be that there is a problem on the software side or did something hardware wise break and it was unlinked to the format?

The Touch Bar works with no problems as well the Trackpad.
Apr 05, 2019 When you are all set, you can then start the clean installation of MacOS Mojave. I have tried this method to update my MBP 2016 to the newest operating system. Steps to install MacOS Mojave 10.14 on your Mac. I have to note again that you have to back up your Mac before getting started since the clean install will require formatting your hard. Source: StatCounter Global Stats - macOS Version Market Share It may be that many Mac users are using older Macs that can't run Mojave. There were a number of Macs from around 2009 and 2010 that.
Everything works except for the keyboard. Even the backlight works.
I have also disconnected and reconnected the battery to reset the SMC
I did the format with a USB drive. I first booted into the recovery and wiped the disk. Then I shut it down and inserted the usb and proceeded to install. I installed the latest Mojave version.
I am now planning to go back to Sierra to see if the problem is software related.
Below are pictures of USB, SPI, Input sources
Is this a good question?

@danj Yes, I was able to connect my bluetooth keyboard on macOS Setup through a glitch on the right click menu. A bluetooth keyboard is my only choice since I don't have an adaptor to connect a wired keyboard.
I installed macOS Mojave and then updated to Mojave Beta and I'm now on the Catalina Developer Beta 2. Some friend told me to install the first OS that my Mac came with but I'm not too sure if I should do it.
Macos Mojave Good For My Macbook Pro 2016 13 Retina
@thboud - OK, that changes things!
I would only recommend going with Mojave unless you are a developer! But until you have a stable system with Mojave I would hold off with any beta.
Go back into your recovery partition and wipe the drive and re-install the original OS the system came with (a special cut of Sierra)
Does your system work with it?
@danj Ok so I'll install Sierra. The thing is that with Mojave the keyboard also didn't work. And I can't really access the recovery partition without a keyboard.
